FIRE!!! FOLLOW YOUR ESCAPE PLAN

Remember to GET OUT, STAY OUT and CALL 9-1-1 or
call your local emergency phone number.

• If closed doors or handles are warm, use your second
way out. Never open doors that are warm to the touch.
• Crawl low under smoke.
• Go to your outside meeting place and then call for help.
• If smoke, heat or flames block your exit routes, stay in the room with doors
closed. Place a wet towel under the door and call the fire department or 9-1-1.
Open a window and wave a brightly colored cloth or flashlight to signal for help.
Use Caution with Fire Extinguishers
Use a portable fire extinguisher only if you have been trained by the fire department
and in the following conditions:
• The fire is confined to a small area, and is not growing.
• The room is not filled with smoke.
• Everyone has exited the building.
• The fire department has been called.
Remember the word PASS when using a fire extinguisher.
• Pull the pin and hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you.
• Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
• Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.
• Sweep the nozzle from side to side.

Business in the Home: do you need additional coverage?

Whether you own your business and operate the business out of your home or if you are employed but work at home, there are situations and property that may not be covered if you do not address them.  Here are some questions that you should ask:

Do you keep inventory at your home or do customers order on-line?

Do you operate the business out of a detached structure?

Do you have employees or people who help you with your business?

Do customers come to your home?

Do you own more than $2,500 of business personal property or inventory?

Do you deliver goods?

Do you transport people?

Do you travel for business?

Do you own your vehicle personally or in your company name?

Do you lease land to a neighboring farmer?

Depending on the type of business, your home and auto policies may or may not cover you.  An unendorsed homeowner's policy may be adequate but there are businesses that should be insured under a commercial insurance policy.

Ginger Chicken Curry Soup

 Meme's Ginger Chicken Curry Soup

From my good friend Betsy Kelly

1 T olive oil

1 large onion, chopped

1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper

4 cloves garlic, chopped

1 1/4 lbs chicken, cut into 1 inch pieces or smaller

1 T very good curry powder

1 tsp grated fresh ginger (I often use 1 T)

1/4 tsp dried red pepper flakes

4 cups chicken broth

1 can petite diced tomatoes & juice

1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped

1/3 cup orzo

2 T dried currants

Dash of brown sugar

Cilantro and yogurt for topping

Saute onion, red pepper & garlic in olive oil.  Add raw chicken, curry, ginger & red pepper flakes.  Cook until chicken is white.  Add chicken broth, tomatoes & apples and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and simmer.  Stir in pasta and currants.  Simmer, season with salt & pepper & about 1 T brown sugar.  I will often add the orzo already cooked as it absorbs so much of the liquid.  Better if made the day before.  Top with chopped cilantro and yogurt.  Hope you enjoy!
